Small to Medium Enterprises

Why bother?

  • Statistics show 80% of businesses (not matter what size) who suffer a serious disruption go out of business in 12-18 months

  • Insurers may insist on one

  • ‘Stuff’ happens where stuff = fires, water leaks, floods, power failure, IT failure or any combination you can think of

  • ‘It has never happened to me’ will be of no comfort when you realise you missed off the word ‘yet!’

  • Insurance companies may require it

  • Customers may expect it

What’s to be done?

You need to have a task orientated plan that tells you what to do, who to call, where to go and when to do it in the event of a disaster, your disaster.

There are however some pre-stages to plan writing, namely –

  • Understanding your business, what deliverables are critical to survival and therefore what assets are critical too

  • Determining what you could get away with i.e. reduced levels of customer service but staying within regulatory requirements

  • Deciding what existing and additional resources could be made available.

The plan can now provide the details of how our strategy is decided and implemented.

Simple enough?

It can be with some professional help.  This is our area of expertise – we can work with you, using our experience and tried and tested templates together with your business and sector knowledge to ensure you have an effective contingency in place.  Also that it meets your business needs, your insurer’s requirements, those of potential customers and for a price that will not put you out of business.

Costly?

It does not have to be!  Time invested now will pay for itself following an incident many times over, not just financially but in heart ache too!

Working through the BC process can take as little as a day – result is

  • a recovery strategy

  • a draft plan

  • awareness of what needs to be done

  • an experience of emergency planning

There would still be some work to do, such as the implementation of any technical solutions, testing, but some cover would be in place.
